These pre-employment medical examinations and re-engagement medical assessments are essential tools to ascertain whether an employee is fit to do his job without any danger to others or himself. Whatever the market, the health and security of your staff is vital and is key to optimizing the company’s productivity.

Typically, such medical exams will involve assessing the individual’s medical background, as well as check for any chronic conditions, and infectious diseases. The specifics of the pre-employment / re-engagement checks will depend on the industry, nature of job, and age of the worker.

Statutory Medical examination

Under the Workplace Safety and Health (Statutory Medical Examinations) Guideline, workers exposed to certain health dangers during their work are expected to undergo regular medical examinations. This enables early detection of occupational disorders and prevents excessive exposure of your employees to workplace hazards, thereby protecting from the damaging effects of the workplace hazards. These medical assessments can only be performed by Designated Workplace Physicians (DWDs) registered with the Ministry of Manpower.
